Born on November 7,1954, 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan celebrates his 62nd today. The acclaimed veteran thespian entered the Tamil film industry as a child artist and won the President's Gold Medal – Rashtrapathi Award for his performance in Kalathur Kannamma (1959) at the age of four. He then starred in five more films as a child artist till 1962. After a brief hiatus of seven years, the young actor resumed his acting career again in 1970 and there has been no break since.

Being an actor, dancer, producer, director, screenwriter, playback singer, lyricist, choreographer and a philanthropist, Kamal Haasan has proved his expertise and versatility in many of his hit films and has won numerous awards that includes the Padma Shri (1990), Padma Bhushan (2014), Prix Henri-Langlois French Award (2016) and Chevalier French Award (2016). He stands as the only Indian actor who had starred in seven films that were submitted by India for the Academy Award - Best Foreign Language Film (Oscars).

'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan considers cinema as his soul, and his films are noted for their unique presentation and latest technological advancements. On the work front, he is now engaged in the making of Sabash Naidu,  a spin-off of one of the characters which he played in the 2008-released blockbuster Dasavathaaram, and a sequel Vishwaroopam 2. His daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan have also made a name for themselves in the industry following the footpath of their father.
