Chalmaar

Singer: Benny Dayal
Lyrics: NA. Muthukumar
The album begins on a peppy note with a foot tapping dance number high on energy levels. Benny Dayal’s folksy and trendy vocals give the song an additional punch. The feisty trumpets, thumping rhythm adds a good vigor to the overall composition. The interludes are quite punchy and at the same time appealing.

Gokka Makka

Singer: Shivranjani Singh
Lyrics:NA. Muthukumar

A queer dance number arrives in style next with perfect bass work and retro style loops. Shivranjani Singh does a great job with her stylish rendition. However, it is the bass work and loops which take the front seat throughout. The song progresses with good confidence in fast paced interludes as well. NA.Muthukumar’s lyrics are funky and suit the theme well.

Pesamal Pesi Parthen

Singer: Karthik
Lyrics:NA. Muthukumar

To take a detour, a laid back number with trendy guitar strums and electric guitar is sung brilliantly by talented singer Karthik. Watch out for the modern Jazz styled riffs throughout the composition. The song gives a melodious touch coupled with breathtaking modernity. It also comes off as an ideal road trip song for its relaxed pace.

Rang Rang Rangoli

Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics:NA. Muthukumar

The album hits a neat finale with a sweet unplugged number sung by the extremely brilliant Shreya Ghoshal who is adept in singing any style of composition. Despite the Bollywood flavor, the song appeals high time with its haunting flute and the lower octave singing by Shreya. Muthukumar’s lyrics are quite poetic and follow a breathtaking narrative style.

Verdict: Devi is a competent album which suits the film’s theme. The album is high on energy levels and has decent share of melodies as well, but lacks nativity.
