Vaaimai projected as a come back film of comedy king Goundamani has an ensemble cast under the direction of A.Senthilkumar.

Having lost her husband at her young age, Poornima Bhagyaraj brings up her son Prithvi amidst hardships. The grown up Prithvi works as a carpenter in a site of an upcoming apartment. In this stage, a social activist undergoes a hunger strike against corruption opposite to the new building. This incident creates a sensational wave throughout the country.

Amidst this, the activist is shot to death mysteriously and the police find out that the culprit has done this crime from where Prithvi is working. While checking the building, Prithvi is the only person found there. After seizing the pistol from the building, the police arrest Prithvi, prove him as the culprit and sentence him to death.

They, then hand over the anguished Poornima Bhagyaraj to the court with the complaint that she could have helped her son behind the murder. During the prosecution, Poornima keeps silent and refuses to answer the questions. Even the public voice out two different opinions about the verdict on Poornima.

So, confused with the situation, the Judge decides to appoint 12 individuals who excels in their field and make them decide the verdict within two hours. Like wise, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Thyagarajan, Goundamani, Ramki, Muktha Bhanu, Urvashi, Manoj.K.Bharathi, Prasath, Namo Narayana, Venkat, Rose and Ankitha are appointed to inquire Poornima. The aftermath of this prosecution and the result are narrated in the rest of the story.

Although the movie initially travels in open locations, it ends up in a room with the court sequences but the director has shown his efficiency in making the film an interesting one. The story opens a question about the necessity of death sentence. Caught in the clutches of the law, few innocent victims happen to lose their lives when they are punished with death sentences. But, later, if they are proved innocent, nothing can be done to retrieve the lives. So, the movie has a strong say against this punishment which is very much welcomed by the viewers. The director also gets the appreciation for making the film clear and crisp in its sufficient run time of 90 minutes.

Shanthanu Bhagyaraj proves his talents with various face expressions and Vaaimai could be a turning point in his career. Though not for his counter dialogue but for his introductory scene itself veteran actor Goundamani gets a big applause from the audience. Thyagarajan's loud tone do not go well with the scenario. Other than this, all the other artists have done their best to add strength to the film.

Debutante music composer Augath could have taken more efforts in the BGMs. Rasamathi's camera works help to carry out the momentum of the screen play.

To sum up, Vaaimai will win.
