144 plot mainly revolves around the feud between two neighbouring villages and a stash of gold. Shiva, a petty thief, tries to steal gold from Madhusudhan, a jeweller from the neighbouring village with the help of Oviya. Meanwhile, another thief (Muniskanth) abducts Madhu’s daughter (Shruthi) who holds the key to the room that has the gold. Shruthi’s lover (Ashok) goes in search of her.

At one point, Shiva, Oviya, Shruthi, Ashok and Muniskanth are all stuck in the same bungalow and they come to know about the reason for Shruthi’s abduction. Whether Ashok saves Shruthi from the trouble and what happens to the gold is the rest of the story.

The screenplay is not clear and director Manikandan could have done much better. Though the casting seems to be talented, the efforts are not there for us to see. Better editing could have helped in the pace of the movie.

Shiva, Ashok Selvan, Oviya, Shruthi and Madhusudhan have done the given roles aptly. Udhay Mahesh and Muniskanth have tried to be humorous but they fail to create the right impact.

Sean Roldan’s music is average as the BGM sounds ineffective in most places. Gurudev’s cinematography adds strength to this insipid story.
