An official remake of a Malayalam hit film Thattathin Marayathu, Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai stars Walter Phillips and Isha Talwar in the lead roles under the direction of Mithran Jawahar.
Hero Walter Philips is a Hindu by religion. Fascinated with the romantic film of Arvind Swamy-Manisha Koirala starrer Mumbai, which he happened to see when he was young, Walter even prays to God that he should marry a Muslim girl as his life partner.
Years pass by and Walter becomes an adult. He, then, happens to meet Isha Talwar in a wedding and falls for her at the first sight itself. After taking up many efforts, they start moving together and Walter expresses his feelings to her. But, coming from a traditional Muslim family, Isha Talwar maintains silence without accepting or rejecting his proposal. Walter waits for her response.
After few days of silence, Walter jumps into her house to meet her but Isha's father 'Thalaivasal' Vijay and his brother Nassar catch him and hand him over to the police. Being imprisoned, Walter is unable to know the happenings outside and is in a dilemma about his love life. What happens after that can by enjoyed by the audience in the silver screens.
Debutante actor Walter Philips proves his acting talents in his first film itself. He shows varieties of emotions like love and romance and has excelled in his dance movements as well.
Looking beautiful and elegant, Isha Talwar proves to be a perfect choice for a Muslim character. When there is no dialogue, she is able to express the feelings through her eyes. Nassar makes the audience enjoy his experienced acting and Vijay also has portrayed his role to a great level. Arjun, who comes as Walter's friend gives guarantee for the hilarious sequences. The other artists also done a good work with the given portions.
Director Jawahar Mithran has remade his super hit Malayalam flick into a Tamil romantic film, but this Tamil remake fails to attract the audience as the original. The slow moving story line tests the patience of the viewers.
Songs are enjoyable with G.V.Prakash's composition and a special mention should be made for the melodies. Shan Rahman's back ground music adds more energy to the screenplay. The camera works of Vishnu Sharama play a vital role in creating the magic on the screens.
Totally, Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai fails to pick up the speed.
