After the success of the Komban, director Muthaiah is back with yet another village-centric film in the form of Marudhu. With Vishal and and Sri Divya in the lead roles, the rest of the cast includes Soori, Radha Ravi and R.K.Suresh.
D. Imman, who has made a mark for himself as the go to composer for village themed films has crooned the music for Marudhu. Praveen K.L has edited the film and cinematography is by Velraj. G. N. Anbu Chezhiyan of Gopuram Films have bankrolled this flick which has been distributed by Vendhar Movies and Vishal Film Factory.
Set in Rajapalayam, Marudhu is a story that revolves around the lead pair. Vishal is a hard working laborer who falls in love with the straightforward and brave Sri Divya, the daughter of a lawyer. When her dad goes against the village bigwig Radha Ravi and his henchman R.K.Suresh, they take a vow to destroy Sri Divya's family. Whether Vishal saves his lady love's family and end up winning her hand forms the rest of Marudhu's story.
As a lungi clad, dark skinned worker, Vishal has not just enacted the character but has lived it. Be it the loving grandson for his grandma, the youth who respects women or the angry lad who stands against the antagonists, Vishal shines in a role that's an example of a perfect commercial film hero.
Sri Divya does justice to the role of a village girl. Though she doesn't have much dialogues, her bold characterization makes her acting a plus point for the film. As a pair, the height difference between them is highly evident but the storyline covers it up pretty well. Apart from taking care of the comic relief, Soori has also doubled as a character artist in this film. His acting in the last few scenes of the film is really commendable.
Soft-spoken yet ruthless, Radha Ravi shows why he's a veteran in the villain's shoes. R.K.Suresh can rightfully be called as the second hero to the film as that much is his portrayal of a villain. His dialogue delivery and acting is very impressive. In the role of Vishal's grandmother, Malayalam actress Leela has done an amazing job. Her character is even more important than that of the heroine and she has carried out her role perfectly.
Kuttipuli and Komban showed that emotional scenes are Muthaiah's forte. He has made full use of his capability and the way he has showcased the affection between an old lady and his grandson is sure to win audience's heart. Muthaiah's dialogues have been a huge pillar of support for his previous films and it's the same case with this one too. The face off between Vishal and R.K.Suresh has been captured in an interesting manner and the racy screenplay makes the film devoid of dull moments.
Imman's songs add strength to Marudhu and background music too is good. Velraj's cinematography has showcased the natural beauty of Rajapalayam and he has shown his talents in the action sequences too.
Overall, Marudhu is a well executed no nonsense entertainer.
